Once you've added your spots, you can edit them to add more information:
- select one your spots from your admin map
- click on the Edit button

- Or, drag the dot if you want to reposition it
Transport mode
By default, all your spots will be connected to each other to trace an itinerary.
You can change the color of the lines linking your spots by changing their transport modes.

The map legend will also be automatically updated depending on the transport modes you used.
You can create custom transport modes if you want to change the color or the name of the default transport modes (Premium account required).
Icon
By default, all the spots of your itinerary will be displayed as dots on the map. The color of the dot is defined by the color of the transport mode associated.
You can choose to display a star icon instead to highlight important places (Premium account required). See example map: clem.travelmap.net/cycling-around-australia.
![]()
We're planning to add more icons in a future update. We're being cautious about this because we don't want our maps to look like this.
Line
Update this field to trace lines following the roads or edit lines manually instead of displaying straight lines between your spots (Premium account required).

City/place
Enter the name of this spot. It can be a city or any other name.
Examples: "Paris", "Bretagne", "Atlantic crossing - Day 5", "Los Angeles", "Miami, Florida", etc.
Country
It will automatically be selected or left blank when no country is found (at sea).
Date
New spots will be added with today's date by default. But you can edit this field to enter a past or future date.
So you can trace TravelMap itineraries for past, present or future trips.
You can also clear that field to remove the date completely.

Distance
You can associate a distance to any of your spots. It will be displayed in the list of spots next to your map and it will be used to calculate the total distance of your trip.
You can enter any number manually or click on the "calculate" icon inside the field to calculate the distance of your line.

Note: you can change the distance unit if you want to display miles or nautical miles instead of kilometers.
Comment
You can write some short text inside this field to briefly explain how your day went.
If you plan to write more (several paragraphs), it's best to attach an article to your spot instead.

Save
Finaly, make sure you click on the Save button to record your changes.
