If you want to trace an itinerary on the road, you can:
-
Add many individual spots along the route. It's free but it will clutter the map quickly
-
Import GPS files (if you have any)
-
Enable the Live Tracking (if you have a compatible GPS device)
-
Edit the line manually (it's time consuming)
-
Use the "Follow roads" option to trace the route automatically, explained below
- Here's an example of a map using this feature premium.travelmap.net
Follow roads
This option requires having a Premium account (at least while you trace the lines, then they'll stay the same once your paid account expires).
In the example above, you'd need to:
- Open your administration map
- Select the spot Marseille
- Click on Edit
- Click on Line: Follow roads
- Optionally: drag the purple line to choose a different route
- Once you are done, click on Save
Note: you can click on Edit and click on the calculate icon inside the Distance field to add a distance
Routing directions
Depending on the transport mode selected for the spot you are editing, the routes will be traced for:
- cars (for the transport modes: "Driving", "Bus", "Motorbike", etc.)
- bicycles ("Cycling")
- pedestrians ("Hiking")
At the moment, there is no way to trace lines following railroads automatically.
Tip for bike trips
It might be best to select the transport mode "Driving", click on "Line: follow roads", then select the transport mode "Cycling" to reset it and click on Save. Otherwise the route might go through some very small trails that might not be accessible.
