Split a line at a specific point

If you already have a detailed line (a GPS track, a "Follow roads" route, or a manual line), you can add a new spot directly on top of it to split the line into two parts — both parts keep their original shape.

This is useful when:

  • You were using the Live Tracking and you forgot to change the transport mode mid-trip (e.g. driving → boat → driving, or bus → plane, etc.)
  • You imported a long GPS track and want to break it down into several legs (one spot per day, one per stop, etc.)
  • You want to add a rest stop or a point of interest mid-route without losing the route's shape
  • You forgot a spot along a detailed line and don't want to retrace the whole route

How to split a line

  • Open your administration map
  • Select the spot after the place where you want to split (the next spot in the itinerary)
  • Click on the edit icon in the middle of the line
  • Click on Insert spot between

Small white dots now appear along the traced line — one per point of the route.

Clickable dots along a traced line

  • Click the dot where you want the new spot to appear
  • The new spot is inserted — optionally click Edit to rename it, change the transport mode, etc.
  • Click Save

The existing line is now split in two: the new spot keeps the first half, and the next spot keeps the second half. Both halves follow the exact shape of the original trace — no retracing needed.

Note: the total distance of the original line is not automatically split between the two halves. The next spot keeps the full distance, and the new spot starts with no distance. You can adjust both manually in each spot's Distance field.

If you'd rather insert a new spot with a fresh line (straight or following the roads), ignore the dots and add the spot as you normally would.

I'm currently working on a complete documentation section with tutorial for each feature.
